Clean Water Needed In Pike County Community

{Kentucky}...Families along Big Branch in Pike County rely on well water for their drinking supply, but, for the last two months, methane in the water has residents buying water to drink and cook with. Some suspect nearby Excel Number Two Mine is to blame for their problem, and families want a new water source. They say they will pay to have Martin County's water run to their house, a connection only several thousand feet away. Mountain Water District officials say that could cost between $125,000 and $150,000. Roy Sawyers with Mountain Water District says the company is looking at going through Martin County. Sawyer says, from the day the agreement is made to purchase water from Martin County, it will still take at least three months for the water to be connected.
