Corps of Engineers Budgets Martin Redevelopment Project

  • {Kentucky}...The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has budgeted nearly one and one half million dollars for the city of Martin redevelopment project to begin. The Floyd County Fiscal court has agreed to match five percent of the funds to add to the budget. The project includes relocating the city to higher ground to get it out of the flood plain and then elevating the current city after redevelopment is finished. Phase one will include five or six buildings that are essential to the city, with the fire department being the first building to go up. Floyd County Judge Executive R. D. "Doc" Marshall says the project will take many, many years to complete.
