11th Annual Ride For the Island a Success

(Pikeville, Ky) - The 11th Annual Ride for the Island motorcycle ride sponsored by the Kentucky State Police took place on Saturday, and it was a success. According to Trooper Shaun Little, 120 people registered for the ride. In addition to the yearly motorcycle "poker run," there is also a golf tournament fundraiser for "Trooper Island," a 35 acre camp for boys and girls in the middle of Dale Hollow Lake in Southern Kentucky. Each summer, kids from all 16 KSP posts across the commonwealth attend the week-long camp. Post 9 in Pikeville takes 16 girls and 16 boys each year to the camp that has been a much needed escape for children since 1965. But Trooper Little explained that the fundraisers and donations are the only things that keep Trooper Island going from year to year. Anyone interested in learning more about the camp or in making a tax deductible donation can visit www.kentuckystatepolice.org.
