Safe Routes To School Grants

(Kentucky)  Local governments and school districts have received additional time to apply for a new round of funding for projects and activities that encourage and enable children to safely walk and ride bicycles to school.

The new deadline for submitting online applications for the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program is Aug. 15.  The deadline has been extended in response to numerous applicant requests.

The program is federally funded but administered by the Office of Local Programs in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Department of Rural and Municipal Aid.

Under the SRTS program, cities, counties and school boards can apply for funding for a broad range of projects and activities in close proximity to elementary and middle schools. Eligible projects and activities run
the gamut from new or improved sidewalks, crosswalks and bike lanes to public awareness campaigns and encouragement programs near schools.
