Former Whitley County Sheriff Sentenced

{Kentucky}...U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove on Wednesday sentenced former Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge to 15½ years in prison and ordered him to forfeit $50,000 and pay $64,897 restitution for being involved in conspiracies to commit extortion, distribute drugs and launder money. Hodge pleaded guilty to the charges in May, admitting he conspired with defense lawyer Ron Reynolds to extort money from people charged with drug crimes, that he conspired with drug dealers to distribute prescription pills and conspired with a former bookkeeper to embezzle and launder tens of thousands of dollars belonging to the department. Hodge has already started serving his sentence. Van Tatenhove ordered him jailed the day he pleaded guilty in May. Reynolds was sentenced to 27 months in prison in July, while former bookkeeper, Abby Vicky Paul, was sentenced to six months in prison.
