Martin Moving To Higher Ground

  • {Kentucky}...The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project to move the city of Martin out of the flood plain started nearly a decade ago, and moving the entire city to higher ground is now underway. Monday morning, Congressman Hal Rogers and city and county leaders broke ground on the new fire department, the first public building for the site. Rogers said six floods in the past three decades have wiped out the city, washing away homes and flooding churches and businesses. The new fire station should be finished within a year. Then crews will start moving City Hall and the Post Office. Rogers says he doesn't know of anywhere else in the country where they're relocating an entire town.
