Man Indicted In Fatal Martin County Accident

{Inez, Kentucky}...Twenty-three year old Steven Heller of Kermit, West Virginia was indicted earlier this month in the death of 28 year old James Fletcher, of Martin County, Kentucky. A judge entered a not guilty plea for Heller during his arraignment on Friday. Police say, on June 25th, Heller was driving in the Crum area about 4:00 A.M. when he struck Fletcher’s vehicle. According to the criminal complaint, Heller’s blood alcohol was .223 and he tested positive for Cannabinoids. A passenger in Heller’s car had a blood alcohol content of .184 and also tested positive for Cannabinoids. Emergency crews say Heller was partially in the driver’s seat with his shoe stuck under the gas pedal, and the speedometer was stuck at over 100 mph. The other man told investigators that he, Heller and another person started drinking about 12 hours before the crash. Deputies say Heller told them he had no memory of the crash. The passenger told deputies that he had fallen asleep during the drive and woke up after the crash with blood on him. Heller is scheduled back in court in December.
