Holiday Highway Safety

(Pikeville, Ky) - With the Christmas and New Year's holidays just around the corner, local police agencies are wanting you to know that enforcement efforts will be stepped up on our roads with additional patrols and traffic safety checkpoints. Between busy last minute shoppers with other things on their minds and people who are driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, this holiday period can be a dangerous one. Officer Tony Conn with the Pikeville Police Department explains, "We see a lot more DUI related crashes this time of year. You've got a lot more people on the roads and you've got more people going back and forth to stores doing holiday shopping. A lot of people have to go to three or four parties, both business and personal. Hopefully, they'll use their common sense and get a designated driver."
And, remember, the Designated Driver is NOT the person who has the least to drink. It is the person who has had NOTHING to drink. Identify the person who will be doing the driving before your holiday celebration begins.
