Pike County Deputy Fatally Injured

{Pikeville, Kentucky}...At 9:04 P.M. Monday, Post 9 Pikeville received a 911 call of a three vehicle accident on US 460 in the Belcher community of Pike County. KSP units and Pike County Deputies responded to the scene, where it was determined that a Pike County Deputy had been fatally injured. Preliminary investigation indicates 47 year old David Childers of Ashcamp was traveling West on US 460 in a Nissan Pathfinder when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane, striking a 2001 Pike County Sheriffs Department cruiser operated by 53 year old Deputy James Thacker of Elkhorn City. Deputy Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Zeb Hampton. A third vehicle involved in the accident was a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix which was traveling East on US 460 operated by 38 year old Brenda Robinette of Pikeville. The incident remains under investigation By KSP Master Trooper Eddie Crum.
