Fatal Shootout In Breathitt County

{Jackson, Kentucky}...Five people were injured and one killed during a shooting on Highway 30 West near Jackson in Breathitt County about 8:00 P.M. Sunday night. Kentucky State Police say someone called 911 saying someone was firing shots at their car as it passed by a house. When law enforcement arrived on the scene, police say 59 year old Danny Johnson opened fire from his house, shooting two people in a vehicle and wounding three law enforcement officers before being fatally shot. Breathitt County Sheriff Ray Clemons says it "was like Vietnam for a few minutes" as the gunman fired rapidly and repeatedly at authorities taking cover behind squad cars. Sheriff Clemons says Trooper Joey King was struck in the face with buckshot, while Deputy Marvin Reed was hit with buckshot in the shoulder, and Deputy Steve McIntosh was struck with buckshot in the arm and upper chest.
