Floyd County Man Charged In Fatal Accident

{Prestonsburg, Kentucky}...Murder was not among the charges filed filed last week in Floyd County District Court against 22 year old James E. Mace, the driver of a vehicle involved in a car crash that resulted in the death of 63 year old Brenda Montgomery of Jackson. Mace crashed into Montgomery and her passenger, Elsie Oakley, on May 15th. Montgomery was transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead by Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson. Police say, at the time of the accident, Mace was fleeing from sheriff’s deputies who had spotted him and his passenger, Jonathan Crider, melting down copper at an old strip mine. Charges filed against Mace include two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, first-degree fleeing or evading police, criminal trespassing, and tampering with physical evidence. Mace is currently being held in the Floyd County Detention Center. His bond was initially set at $1 million, but has been reduced to $100,000.
