Mine Fatality In Pike County

{Kimper, Kentucky}...The Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing says a collapse at McCoy Elkhorn Coal Corp.'s No. 23 mine in Pike County around 11:40 A.M. Monday claimed the life of 33 year old Farley Sargent. Officials say Sargent was laying track underground when a portion of the wall fell into the corridor. The incident is known as a rib roll. The mine is owned by the James River Coal Company of Richmond, Virginia. This is the second mining-related death in Kentucky this year. The first occurred when a mine foreman was killed in Harlan County in March.
