SPORTS HEADLINES

LEXINGTON, Ky.  - All 12 members of the 1972 Olympic basketball team are planning to reunite in central Kentucky this weekend. The team's loss of the gold medal to the Soviet Union has been a source of controversy and debate for decades. The team never accepted the silver medal and remains firm in its stance that it was robbed of the gold.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  - The 25th-ranked Louisville Cardinals begin the season with 4 of 5 starters back on their offensive line. The unit should help the Cardinals and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who threw for 2,129 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, but also had 12 interceptions. Louisville plays Kentucky on Sept. 2.

FRANKFORT, Ky.  - The Kentucky Horse Park is doing better financially and may not need support from state government in eight more years. The park's executive director told lawmakers that current income is exceeding expectations. A faltering economy in 2008 hit the horse park hard.

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Rain has washed out qualifying at Bristol Motor Speedway, which means Casey Mears will start from the pole Saturday night. Brad Keselowski will start second, followed by series points leader Greg Biffle, Joey Logano and Aric Almirola.
