Kentucky Ranks 8th for most Declared Disasters

Kentucky has declared 56 major disasters since 1953 according to FEMA's website. That's the eighth highest in the country.

Of Kentucky's 56 major disaster declarations, most were due to flooding.

Many will never forget some of the worst natural disasters here in Eastern Kentucky including the '57 flood, the '77 flood, the 2010 flood in Pike County, the blizzard of '93 and of course more recently the March 2nd tornadoes.

While Kentucky ranks 8th overall for major disaster declarations, the Commonwealth ranks 5th for flooding declarations.
