Police Hold Checkpoint at State Border



Police on Highway 23 are getting a head start on Labor Day weekend traffic.

"We're looking for occupant protection violations such as not wearing their seat belts, folks that have children in the car that don't have them properly restrained," said Gene Vanover Wise County, Virginia Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy. "We're looking for any type of violation or infraction that jeopardizes folks' lives."

This is the 13th year for the checkpoint, which includes officers from the Letcher County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Police, Jenkins Police , Whitesburg Police, the Wise County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Police, Norton Police, Coeburn Police, and Appalachia Police.
