Fatal Pike County Accident

Icy road conditions may have contributed to an accident that claimed a life.

According to Kentucky State Police, the Pikeville Post received a call shortly after 7 AM yesterday of the accident on US 119 in the South Williamson community of Pike County.

According to a press release, 50 year old Lillian Raines of Chapmanville, WV. was traveling South on US 119 when her vehicle struck a bridge.

Rains lost control of her vehicle striking the bridge a second time and crossed into the Northbound lanes of US 119 striking a vehicle operated by Gregory Smith.

Raines was pronounced deceased at the scene. Smith was transported to South Williamson ARH and then to Cabell Huntington Hospital for his injuries.

This accident remains under investigation by KSP Trooper Hoyt Smith.
