Pike County Men Plead Not Guilty to Deadly Stabbing



Two men from Pike County, Ky. charged in connection with a deadly stabbing early New Years Day have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

One man was killed and two other men wounded in the stabbings that happened in downtown Whitesburg about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Kentucky State Police say Mike Hogg, 24, of Richmond was killed. David Puckett, 23, of Jenkins, and Stacy Phillips, 23, of Thornton were wounded.

James Huffman, 34 of Pikeville, has been charged with murder and assault.

Patrick Smith, 27, of Greasy Creek, is charged with complicity to murder, criminal mischief, carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence.

Huffman and Smith were arraigned on the charges during a hearing Thursday in Letcher County District Court.

Preliminary hearings for both men are set for next week.

They are being held in the Letcher County Detention Center.

Investigators have not released a motive for the stabbings.
