Signal work on US 23 at KY 1559 in Johnson expected to take two months

New signal installation in Johnson County on US 23 at KY 1559 near W.R. Castle Elementary School could take another two months, according to Keith Coleman, traffic sup...erintendent at Highway District 12 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Off-road work pouring footers and setting poles is finished. Utility relocation is under way. Prep work off-road for Advance Warning Flashers is nearly complete.

Crews are moving into the lanes of traffic to build 10 signal heads, three each northbound and southbound and two each on the side roads. They will saw loops for signal detection and install the control cabinet.

“All this work is weather dependent,” Coleman said. “Anything more than intermittent light rain showers would interfere with the work. Any time the roadway is wet, work will be interrupted.”

Assuming the weather cooperates, work is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for the next several weeks.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane at times when the new span is raised across the highway. Motorists are asked to observe warning signs, merge cones and signs, and flaggers.
