Letcher County woman allegedly high when child burned

A Letcher County woman who was allegedly high on drugs when her child was burned in a house fire has been indicted.

An indictment handed down by a Letcher County Grand Jury charges 31 year old Sheila L. Lewis with wanton endangerment in connection with the February 6 fire.

The indictment alleges Lewis, along with the child's father, had snorted two hydrocodone pills, and after the father went outside, Lewis, being a few feet away from the child, failed to notice the fire as it burned through the wall next to the child's bed while the child was sleeping.

The child suffered 3rd degree burns to 20-30% of its body.

A Kentucky State Police Detective appeared before the grand jury and gave testimony in this case.
