State government stages job fair; numerous positions open

Interested in a state government career?
The state Department of Administration has joined with Workforce West Virginia to stage its fourth annual career fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Culture Center.
“We really want to educate job seekers with information on full time state government employment opportunities,” said administration spokesperson Diane Holley-Brown. “It’s really amazing the types of jobs that are available in state government.”
Areas of critical need exist in healthcare, engineering, law enforcement, and information technology, Holley-Brown said. However, representatives from 15 state agencies will speak to potential workers about the positions and what they entail.
“In many cases you might look at the personnel website and read a description,” she said. “But here, you’ll be able to sit down and talk to folks in state government.”
More than 400 attended last year’s event.
Holley-Brown suggested Thursday’s visitors bring a resume, identification, and any other pertinent information they’d like to deliver to a prospective employer.
Numerous openings remain despite financial strains on the state budget.
