After the previous fire chief's resignation and a long-time fire official taking work in Tennessee, the Williamson Fire Department's current fire chief, Joey Carey, is planning to hire three new firefighters in hopes of getting the department back to full strength.
Carey explained that since the department is currently short-staffed, the men are having to work overtime and sometimes only one man is at the fire department when there used to be two. He also mentioned that in order to move further in the hiring process, the fire department, along with the mayor and city officials, need to hire a new board member for the Civil Service Board. The board helps administer the tests for those who are hoping to be hired.
The Williamson Fire Department has not set a date for when firefighter applications need to be turned in but to be considered by the board, the applicant must be a resident in the City of Williamson.
