(AP) — Two arts groups in Kentucky have received grants totaling nearly three-quarters of a million dollars.
The organizations are among 38 across the country receiving funding from ArtPlace America. The grants are made to artists and arts organizations to help strengthen communities.
The Kentucky Arts Council says Appalshop in Letcher County received $450,000, and Roots & Wings in Jefferson County received $280,000.
The Arts Council said Appalshop will use the grant to increase arts, media and technology training opportunities for Appalachian youth, strengthen cultural institutions in Letcher County and help develop tourism opportunities.
Roots & Wings, a theater project, plans to use its funding to link Appalachian, West African and urban arts in Louisville's Zones of Hope.
