Floyd County teachers prepare for new school year

More than 1,100 teachers and staff of the Floyd County school system gathered today at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg for their annual back-to-school opening day event. Many described the morning’s event as a “pep rally” of sorts for teachers, getting them fired up for the 2015-16 school year.

Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb says the role of a teacher has changed over the years, and responsibilities now extend much further than the classroom walls.

Classes begin Wednesday at schools across Floyd County.
