Accused of running up more than $5,000 in personal purchases on a county credit card, the Wayne County Assessor has been arrested.
Eric Hodges, 41, of Wayne was taken into custody Tuesday night and charged with embezzlement, computer fraud, and fraudulent use of a credit cards.
Hodges used the county credit card to buy tools, a rifle, pistol, ammunition, and other assorted hardware items at a Webster Springs hardware store according to the criminal complaint. The purchases occurred between July 9 and July 14. The charges added up to $5,600 said investigators and none of the purchased items was authorized by the County Commission or any individual commissioner.
Hodges was taken to the Western Regional Jail and processed before posting bond and being released. Putnam County Prosecutor Mark Sorsaia has been appointed the special prosecutor on the case. Hodges was not on the job Wednesday.
