Wolfe County route chosen for Mountain Parkway expansion

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has settled on a route for an 11-mile stretch of the Mountain Parkway expansion, through Wolfe County. Planners have selected the route known as “alternative 2” during an open forum at Campton Elementary last year. The new road will run along the existing parkway corridor, largely to the south of the current roadway. The expansion will widen the highway to four lanes and redesign exits at Hazel Green and Campton. The Cabinet also selected engineering consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff to complete final design work. Next steps include right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation. As part of the final design process, Parsons Brinckerhoff will prepare detailed descriptions of affected properties by next summer. Parsons also will begin preparing detailed plans needed to begin construction.  Property acquisition could begin as early as next summer, but a specific timeframe depends on availability of funding from the Kentucky General Assembly.
