Intersection work at US 23 and Buckley’s Creek starts tomorrow

Four new underground loops must be installed for the traffic signals at the intersection of US 23 and US 119 in Pikeville, commonly called the Buckley’s Creek intersection or the Walmart intersection. The work will be done at night, weather permitting, on Wednesday, October 7; Thursday, October 8; and Sunday, October 11.

The underground loops are the mechanisms that connect the traffic signals to the control box for signal timing.

Keith Coleman, Highway Traffic Technician Superintendent at Highway District 12, said there will be lane closures starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday night. Motorists should be prepared to slow down when approaching the intersection and watch for instructions from flaggers.

On Sunday night at 7 o’clock the Cassady Boulevard Bridge will be closed to all exiting traffic. Vehicles will be able to enter the shopping area at the bridge, but will not be able to exit at that location. Motorists will have to travel Thompson Road to the Helen Brown Bridge to exit the area.
