Pike school bus driver accused of rape

A Pike County school bus driver is accused of raping a preteen girl. 45-year-old Kenneth G. Brown, of Left Fork of Dry Fork, in Elkhorn City, was arrested this morning on five counts of second-degree rape. According to the arrest warrant, Brown allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old female five times over the course of the last two months. Brown, pleaded not guilty to the charges in Pike District Court this morning and was ordered held in the Pike County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond. Assistant Pike County Attorney Kyle Deskins said the investigation is ongoing, but investigators believe the alleged activity began at the start of the school year. Deskins also commented on other aspects of the case.

Pike County Schools Superintendent Reed Adkins was not available to speak on-camera, but school board attorney Neal Smith said Adkins is aware of the situation, and the school district is planning to address the situation as soon as possible.

Brown is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on October 22, at which time it will be determined if the case is bound over to a grand jury.
