Clearing rockslide could take rest of week

Work crews continue to clear a massive rockslide that has blocked both lanes of US 460 between Millard Middle School and Biggs Creek. According to highway officials, portions of the road are covered by rocks that are between 7 and 8 feet deep. Superintendent Darvy Hamilton says it will take time to break up the material into pieces small enough to haul away. To help shore up the hillside, an additional 20 to 25 feet of rock has been removed. Despite a cold rain falling over the region, officials say the weather will not delay efforts to remove the slide. However, they say it could take the rest of the week before the road reopens to traffic.
