Ferus plant closes in Jenkins, leaving 20 unemployed

A natural gas production facility in Jenkins was closed yesterday, affecting more than two dozen employees at the plant.
Natural gas producer Ferus Inc., announced it is closing the production plant, which, Ferus Communications Director Dario Alvarez told EKB News, has been “uneconomical” over the past several years.
The closure impacts 20 people at the Jenkins plant. Those employees’ positions have been permanently eliminated, Alvarez said, while five employees were offered positions elsewhere in the company.
Alvarez said the decision to close the plant was difficult, but necessary, given the current “very difficult environment in the oil and gas industry.” He said the company appreciates being embraced by the community in Jenkins during the time the plant was in operation.
