Wednesday, November 4, 2015 – If you are traveling southbound on US 23 tonight between Big Lots and the US 119 intersection at Buckley’s Creek, you may encounter lane closures or even a brief detour.
Keith Coleman, Highway District 12’s traffic signal supervisor, explained that lane closures will begin at 8 p.m. between Big Lots and Cassady Boulevard/US 119. From 10 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow, southbound traffic will be detoured over the Helen Brown Bridge at Tim Short Automotive, down Thompson Road, and back onto US 23 via Cassady Boulevard.
The reason for the lane closures and detour is that the electronic sensors which control the left turn traffic signals from US 23 onto US 119 are not working and must be replaced for the signals to work properly.
Coleman apologized for the short notice. “These devices are temperature sensitive, and we are hesitant to wait because if road and air temperatures fall much in the next few days, we won’t be able to do the work.”
Northbound traffic will proceed as usual in all directions. Side roads are not affected, except that there will be an increase in traffic across the Helen Brown Bridge, along Thompson Road, and through Cassady Boulevard between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
