More Federal Dollars for a New Elementary School in Dickenson County, Va.

More federal funds allocated to help build a new elementary school in Dickenson County.

The U.S. Army Corps is sending $42 million to allow for the environmental work, design and construction of the school.

This is in addition to the $17 million granted on Feb. 10 to offset construction costs for Ridgeview High School, which opened in 2015.

The funds are part of a flood control project, as the schools will also serve as an emergency shelter for Dickenson County communities during extreme weather conditions.
