April is Spring Clean-up Month in Pike County, and the Pike County PRIDE Clean Community Board and Eastern Kentucky PRIDE are looking for volunteers to help assist with this year's trash and litter removal from our roadways and illegal dumpsites.
"We are looking for not only volunteers but sponsors," said Jimmy Dale Sanders, the local PRIDE program coordinator. "We need concerned citizens as well as volunteers from local schools, communities, and church groups. We're hoping everyone will come out and help make this year’s event a huge success."
Sanders added that the Fishtrap Lake Clean-up has been set for May 7th of this year.
“We get a lot of support from the Fiscal Court as well as the Pike County Solid Waste Department,” Sanders said, “but our volunteers are essential to the success of our Spring Clean-up. I want to encourage anyone interested to please join us.”
This year's Spring Clean-up will begin April 1st. The Pike County PRIDE Clean Community Board will furnish bags and gloves. Also, boxes will be provided for use by businesses and other interested civic groups.
Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to call Jimmy Dale Sanders at 432-6245. The PRIDE organization meets the first Monday of each Month (excluding July) in the Pike County Fiscal Courthouse at 1:00 pm.
The 2015 clean-up totals include 3029 volunteer hours clocked by 771 volunteers who cleaned the litter from over 358 miles of Pike County roadways. The volunteers collected 5302 bags of trash which resulted in over 221 tons of trash being taken to the Pike County landfill.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and help keep Pike County clean!
