KSP Post 13 Investigates Injury Collision in Knott County

The operator of a vehicle was air lifted to Pikeville Medical Center following a two vehicle collision in Knott County late Monday afternoon.  Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call at 4:05 p.m., advising of the collision on KY 80 in the Bearville community of Knott County.  Troopers, along with first responders with Fisty and Ball Creek Volunteer Rescue Squads, Trans Star Ambulance, and Knott County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.

The initial investigation into the cause of this collision determined that both vehicles were traveling eastbound on KY 80 when the crash occurred.  A 2011 Chevrolet Van, which was being operated by 35 year-old Gregory Allen Meadows of Hager Hill, struck the rear end of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee.  The jeep was driven by 56 year-old Charles Patrick of Talking Rock, Georgia.  Mr. Patrick was flown to Pikeville Medical Center by Air Evac, due to the nature of his injuries.  A passenger in the Jeep, 51 year-old Nina Patrick, was transported to Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital for medical assistance.  Gregory Meadows received minor injuries, but was not transported to a medical facility.

Impairment is not being considered as a factor in the cause of this collision, though further investigation is needed before making a final determination.  This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Josh Richardson with KSP Post 13.
