KSP in Hazard Arrest Man Wanted for Murder in Florida

A Florida man with ties to eastern Kentucky was arrested in Hazard today by Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard.  KSP Post 13 personnel had been contacted by officials with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department in Florida, seeking assistance in locating Michael Anthony Herald, age 48 of Dover, FL.  Herald, who is originally from Perry County, had an active arrest warrant for two counts of 1st Degree Murder, and investigators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department had information that he was in the Hazard area as recently as Thursday, April 14.  He was possibly driving a vehicle belonging to the Florida victims.

Troopers with Post 13 were advised to observe for Michael Herald, specifically in areas of Perry and Breathitt Counties.  At approximately 11:55 a.m., Troopers Isaac Whitaker and Mike Wolfe were observing for Michael Herald on Combs Road in Perry County, when they located a vehicle matching the description given by Florida investigators.  Michael Anthony Herald was operating this vehicle, and was arrested without incident.  The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department was notified of the arrest, and will be sending officers to Hazard to continue their investigation.
