Clinchco mayor pleads guilty to federal charges

The former mayor of Clinchco pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges related to a scheme to use city funds for personal expenses. 50-year-old Peggy Sue Stanley Mickens appeared in U.S. District Court in Abingdon, where she entered guilty pleas to charges of mail fraud, wire fraud and theft of federal funds. Mickens was accused of using federal grant funds to renovate her home and using a city credit card to buy items for her home. She will be back in court Sept. 22 for sentencing.
