Jailer credits police for discovering contraband

A Russell Springs man is facing a felony charge, and the Pike County Jailer is crediting local police officers with keeping drugs out of his jail. According to court documents, 19-year-old Johnny Brandt was arrested late Sunday night on an alcohol intoxication charge and was transported to the Pike County Detention Center by Pikeville Police. Court documents said while en route to the jail, Pikeville Officer Russell Blankenship noticed Brandt moving around in the back seat of his police cruiser. The officer allegedly found Brandt trying to hide marijuana he had concealed in his shoe, and Brandt was charged with a class D felony count of promoting contraband in the first degree. Pike County Jailer commended the officer with finding the marijuana before it entered into the jail.

Brandt remains lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
